Linkable Assets That Earn Links

Research, tools and guides other sites choose to cite.

Linkable assets are content built to give another site a reason to link to you. We qualify the idea, build the asset on your domain, then pitch it for weeks afterwards. Production and promotion are sold together.

What a linkable asset is

A linkable asset is content created to be cited, not to convert. A blog post is written for your reader; a landing page sells. This one is written for a journalist or an industry site that needs something to point at.

The half most content marketing for link building skips: an asset nobody has heard of earns nothing. Build and promotion are one job — the difference between links you place and links that are editorially given.

“If we cannot name the people who would cite it, we do not build it.”

Linkable asset examples that actually earn links

Six formats do most of the work. Labels change — link bait content, data driven content link building — the mechanism does not.

Original data and surveys

A survey, your own transaction data, a public dataset nobody has cleaned. Writers cite numbers.

Free tools and calculators

A calculator that removes a task from someone’s day. Bookmarked, recommended, listed on resource pages.

Definitive guides

A reference complete enough that linking beats explaining again. Only where ranking pages are thin.

Visual explainers

Diagrams that replace three paragraphs. A proper embed carries a credit link home.

Industry indexes

A ranking of a market, refreshed yearly. Everyone included has a reason to mention it.

Expert commentary

Named input with credentials. Weak alone; it makes the other formats quotable.

Format fit

Which formats fit which markets

Format is a market question, not a taste question. What rarely works anywhere: rewritten listicles, brand announcements, longer copies of page one. Regulated markets narrow the options, which is why our casino and iGaming link building leans on tools and indexes.

Qualification

How we choose a topic worth citing

Most failed campaigns fail here. Everyone in the room liked the idea; nobody checked whether anyone outside it had a reason to cite it.

Who would cite this

We name the sites that would plausibly link, then read what they already link to. A generic list means the idea is not ready.

What they already cite

We pull the pages in your niche that earned links and read the linking sentence. Ahrefs makes that measurable.

The conversation nobody enjoys

Sometimes the answer is no, and we say it before production. Killing an idea in week one costs a meeting, not a budget.

Production

Building the asset

You pick one direction, and production starts.

Research and data

Sourcing, collection, cleaning. On original research this is the longest stage — survey design and sample, or making a public dataset defensible.

Writing

Written by someone who knows the subject, with the method stated openly so a journalist can check it.

Design and build

Layout, charts and, for tools, the front-end build. The asset lives on your domain, on a URL you keep.

Seniors do all of it — no juniors on the research, no account manager in the middle. You review after the outline, the draft and the design; revision rounds are fixed in the scope.

Digital PR

Promotion: outreach and digital PR link building

The expensive half, and the decisive one. Journalist outreach suits data with a news angle: pitch while the number is fresh, and coverage arrives in a cluster or not at all. Blogger and industry-site outreach is slower and steadier. Most campaigns use both, and every pitch is written by a person.

Launch day

Asset goes live

Published on your domain, indexed, linked internally from pages that already carry authority.

Weeks 1–2

First pitch wave

Primary target list worked by hand. Every send logged, every reply recorded.

Weeks 3–6

Second wave

Secondary targets, follow-ups chased, angle adjusted to what the first wave answered.

Months 2–3

Long tail

Resource pages, newsletters, writers new to the subject. Assets earn while someone keeps pitching.

Deliverables

What you get and how we report

You get the asset and the paperwork behind the promotion: the target list, what was pitched to whom and when, the replies, and every earned link with its URL.

Reporting runs through the promotion window, not once at the end, so the angle can change while there is time. The asset and the data are yours, and stay yours if the engagement ends.

Pricing: production and promotion

Two quotes, because it is two pieces of work. Production is a fixed-scope project: format, research depth and build agreed in writing, and the number moves only if the scope moves. Promotion is a retainer across the campaign window, priced by target list size and pitching period. Inside a broader programme, both sit in the monthly retainer.

Original research and interactive tools sit at the top; guides and explainers lower. Language count, list size and how regulated your market is push it up. Included: qualification, research, writing, design, agreed revisions, the target list, pitching and reporting. Billed separately where they apply: survey panels, licensed data, development beyond a standard tool build, translation.

We do not sell production alone — a build with no promotion behind it is the most reliable way to spend money on link building content and get nothing back. Agencies run this through white label link building. Your quote comes back with the free audit.

Honest limits

Realistic expectations from a linkable asset campaign

This is the highest-variance tactic in link building. One campaign earns a cluster of editorial links from sites you could never buy your way onto. Another, built to the same standard, earns very few. Anyone quoting you a link count is guessing.

So we commit to inputs: the qualification research, the production standard, the agreed volume of manual pitches, honest reporting with refusals attached. If a campaign underperforms we say so inside the window.

If you need a known number of links on a known schedule, placement tactics do that and earned assets do not.

Next step

A topic review for your market

We research what is already cited in your niche and come back with two or three directions: the format, who would cite it, and the proof they cite things like it. We need your domain, your markets and the countries you sell in.

Common questions

Fair questions, straight answers

What is a linkable asset?

Content built to be referenced by other sites, not to convert the reader in front of it: original research, a free tool, a definitive guide, a visual explainer. It earns nothing unless somebody promotes it.

What types of content actually earn links?

Original data, because writers cite numbers. Tools, because people recommend anything that saves them work. Definitive references, because linking beats re-explaining a subject. All three hand a writer something usable. Generic listicles earn close to nothing.

How is this different from guest posting or niche edits?

With guest posts and niche edits you negotiate a placement, so you know what you are getting. With an asset, other people choose to link: fewer links, less predictable, usually stronger. Most profiles need both.

How much does a linkable asset campaign cost?

Production and promotion are quoted separately: production as a fixed-scope project, promotion as a retainer across the pitching window. Original research and tools cost more than guides. We do not sell production without promotion. Your quote comes with the free audit.

How many links will a linkable asset earn?

We do not quote a number, because it cannot be predicted per campaign. We commit to the research standard, the production standard and the agreed volume of pitches, reported with the actual replies. Underperformance is flagged inside the window.

How long does it take to see links from a linkable asset?

Production runs for a few weeks and varies by format — original research takes longest. Promotion starts on launch day and the pitching window is measured in weeks. Links arrive in a cluster, then trickle. We do not promise dates.

Do you promote the asset or just create it?

Promotion is included and it is the larger half of the work. After launch we work a named target list by hand, with individual pitches, logged sends and chased replies. We do not sell production on its own.

Do I own the content and the data?

Yes, both. The asset sits on your domain and any original data collected is yours, raw responses included. Nothing is taken down if the engagement ends. We may reuse a methodology, never your dataset. The wider programme sits on our link building services page.
