What landing page optimization actually is

Changing one page so more of the traffic already arriving converts. Every change is a hypothesis, judged against the current page, not a redesign shipped on taste. (Landing page optimisation, in British spelling.)

Buyers confuse this with CRO. Landing page optimization is single-page work, usually on paid traffic, with a start and a finish. Conversion rate optimization is site-wide and continuous, and it is where the research method and statistical standard live. Start there if conversion is weak everywhere, and here if you are buying clicks to one page.

The levers are not new, and Semrush's guide covers the same ground. The work is knowing which to pull first, on this page, for this campaign.

Message match

The ad's promise and the headline's must match.

Offer clarity

What they get, what it costs, what happens next.

Form friction

Every field is a tax. Measure drop-off first.

Above-the-fold hierarchy

What the eye meets first, second, third.

Proof placement

Trust signals belong where doubt appears, not the footer.

Page speed

Slow pages lose visitors before the copy works.

Organic pages add one rule: answer the query as well as sell, which is where landing page SEO overlaps, and where this work meets the wider SEO services programme. None of it rescues a weak offer or wrong targeting, and the audit says so when that is what it finds.

Fit check

Who this is for, and who it is not for

Advertisers at real spend

Cost per lead has flattened, bidding is tuned, the page is what is left. Campaign structure itself is PPC work.

SaaS and lead generation

Sessions fine, form completions flat. Usually a form asking too much, too early, of someone who arrived four minutes ago.

Casino and iGaming

Pages carrying geo rules, licence conditions, bonus terms and affiliate tracking that has to survive every edit.

Then the floor. Tests need conversions, not visitors: below a certain volume, split testing produces noise that reads like a result. We say so before you pay, and switch to sequential improvements with the confounders written down. The testing standard below sets out where that line sits.

Wrong fit: a brand redesign, or a whole shop funnel across collection, cart and checkout. That is ecommerce CRO, and a single-page engagement will not touch most of where a store loses money.

Paid traffic

A page does not have a conversion rate. A page plus a campaign does

The same page can convert well on one ad group and badly on another. So the first artefact is a campaign map: for every ad group, the query the searcher actually typed, the promise the ad made, and the first thing the page says.

Query, ad, headline

Three columns per ad group. Where they diverge you bought the click and then discarded it, and no amount of button colour recovers that.

One page per offer

A page serving five ad groups with different promises has to be generic to serve them all. Generic is what loses. Splitting the page usually beats optimising it.

The lead nobody wanted

A page tuned for volume can flood sales with unqualified enquiries. Where your CRM can tell us, the metric is a qualified lead, not a form submit.

To build the map we need the search terms report rather than the keyword list, the ad copy and assets as they currently serve, the ad group structure, and the device and geography split. Dynamic keyword insertion is treated as a symptom: if the headline has to be assembled at runtime to match the ad, the page is carrying too many intents.

Counting comes first. If the conversion action is a thank-you page reachable by refresh, or the ad platform and analytics disagree about how many leads arrived, every later decision inherits the error. Where the measurement layer needs rebuilding, that is GA4 implementation work, quoted separately and done first.

Deliverables

What you actually get

Named artefacts, not adjectives: a campaign map, a heuristic audit, funnel review, session-recording findings, a ranked hypothesis list, an annotated wireframe, rewritten copy, the built variant and a results report.

Each hypothesis is written the same way, so you can argue with it before it costs anything: the observation that prompted it, the change proposed, the effect expected, and the number that will settle the question. Anything that cannot be written that way is a preference, and preferences do not enter the list.

We need read access to analytics, the ad account and the page. Broken tracking is fixed before anything is measured. Everything produced is yours, including the copy and the wireframes, whether or not you keep working with us. Reporting follows our tracking and reporting discipline, and you talk to the senior doing the work.

The build

We ship the page, or we specify it

You choose at quoting time, and the choice is usually made by your developer queue rather than by preference. Both routes end with the same page live.

We build it

Shipped on WordPress, checked across the devices and browsers your traffic actually uses, with the conversion event verified before a single paid click lands on it.

Your developer builds it

Annotated wireframe, final copy, asset list, tracking spec and acceptance criteria written so QA can pass or fail each line. Precise enough for a developer who has never spoken to us.

Brand and legal sign-off

We work inside your brand system rather than around it. Where compliance or legal must approve, the copy goes to them as a document before anything is built.

That last point is not a formality. A variant your brand guardian or compliance team will not approve is a variant that cannot run, so the approval step sits before the build, not after it. In regulated verticals we write to the constraints from the first draft: mandatory disclosures stay visible, and nothing that alters a licensed claim goes into a test without your sign-off.

Process

How a landing page optimization sprint runs

Today

Free audit

Send the page and the campaign feeding it. Within 24 hours: what is losing visitors, and whether testing is viable at your volume.

Week 1

Map and diagnose

Campaign map, analytics, funnel and recordings reviewed. Output is a ranked hypothesis list, with the success metric agreed first.

Week 2

Build the variant

Wireframe, copy, approvals, build, QA across devices. If your developer builds, this is when they receive the specification.

Week 3 onward

Test, read, decide

The variant runs until the test concludes, then ships or rolls back. The finding is written up either way.

Time to first result is set by your traffic, not our speed. We work inside the stack you already pay for, or recommend one setup that you own the licences to.

Testing standards

What a frozen campaign costs while the test runs

The standard is fixed before the test starts, not after the numbers arrive. The success metric is agreed in writing up front, and it is a completed lead or sale rather than a click.

On paid traffic a test is paid for twice: once in media spend, and once in the weeks the page is frozen. Frozen means what it says. No bid strategy change, no new ad copy, no budget swing mid-test, because each of those moves the traffic mix and the comparison stops being like for like. Half your clicks also spend that period on a version that may be rolled back.

Tests run through two full weekly cycles at minimum, since a page that behaves one way on Tuesday and another at the weekend will lie to you on day four. Until the agreed 95% confidence threshold is reached, an early lead is noise. When a variant loses it is rolled back, the original stays live, and the loss is written up. Losers appear in your report like winners.

Some changes should never wait for a test. A defect, a compliance requirement, or anything you intend to ship either way goes live immediately. And where the page cannot produce a conclusive test at all, we say so and move to sequential improvements. The full statistical standard sits on the CRO hub.

"If your page cannot produce a test that concludes, we say so before you pay."

Landing pages for casino and iGaming

Gambling pages are not normal pages. Offers change by licensed market, bonus terms must stay visible, responsible-gambling messaging is not optional, and affiliate tracking has to survive every edit.

Inside those rules there is plenty to test: offer framing, where the terms sit, friction in registration, which licensing signals reduce hesitation. We optimise within your compliance rules; we do not write them, and nothing that alters a licensed claim ships without your approval. Same specialism behind our casino and iGaming link building.

Commercials

What landing page optimization services cost, and how we charge

No packages, no tiers. Work is quoted as a fixed-scope project before it starts, priced per sprint: one page, from audit through build to a concluded test. No retainer, no long-term contract, no notice period.

Inside the fee: campaign map, audit, hypotheses, wireframes, copy, the build if we are building, test setup and reporting. Outside it: ad spend, platform subscriptions, analytics rebuilds and development beyond the page. What moves the number is page count, whether we build or specify, and how much testing follows. The exact quote comes with your free audit.

What we are not, so nobody buys the wrong thing: a fifty-person landing page optimization agency taking a dozen pages next Monday, and not a page-builder platform. We take a fixed number of accounts, so the answer is sometimes not this quarter. More on who you would be working with.

Next step

Send the page and the campaign behind it

One URL and the ad group pointing at it is enough. Within 24 hours you get a written read on what is losing visitors, where the ad and the page stop agreeing, whether your click volume can support a valid test, and an exact quote.

If a test cannot conclude on your volume, the audit says so and lists what to ship without one. Whoever audits the page is the senior who rewrites it and reads the result, and client work stays confidential, so we will not show you another advertiser's account to win yours. Rather email? Common questions

Fair questions, straight answers

What is landing page optimization?

Systematically changing one page so more of its traffic converts: message match, a clearer offer, less form friction, better hierarchy. Changes are tested against the current page rather than shipped on opinion, which is the difference from a redesign.

Is landing page optimization the same as conversion rate optimization?

No. Landing page optimization works on one page, usually one fed by paid clicks, with a start and a finish. Site-wide CRO is continuous and owns the research method and statistical standard. If your whole site converts poorly, start there. Selling products across a catalogue is ecommerce CRO instead.

Do you write the copy, or do we?

We write it. Headline, subhead, body, form labels, button text and the confirmation message, drafted against the campaign map so the page repeats the promise the ad made. You review before anything is built, and the copy is yours to keep either way.

Do you build the new landing page or only advise?

Both, and you choose at quoting time. If we build, we ship on WordPress and test across devices before traffic sees it. If we specify, your developer receives annotated wireframes, copy, a tracking spec and acceptance criteria QA can pass or fail line by line.

How much traffic do I need before A/B testing is worth it?

Enough conversions that a test can conclude in a sensible window, which depends on your current rate and on the smallest change you would act on, not on raw session count. A smaller target effect needs disproportionately more traffic. Below that line the honest answer is sequential improvements, and the free audit tells you which you are.

How long does it take to see results?

The audit arrives within 24 hours and the rebuilt page inside a short sprint. The first test result depends on your traffic, since it needs enough conversions to reach the agreed threshold across full weekly cycles. We give you the expected run time when the test is scoped, so the calendar is agreed before more media spend is committed.

How much does landing page optimization cost?

Landing page optimization services are quoted here as a fixed-scope project fee, priced per page or per sprint and agreed before work starts. Page count, whether we build or specify, and how much testing follows are what move it. No retainer, no long-term contract, no minimum term, and the exact figure comes with your free audit.

Which tools do you use, and do we have to buy them?

Whatever you already pay for, wherever possible: GA4, one testing tool and one session-recording tool, kept to a single lightweight snippet rather than a stack. If you have no tooling we recommend one setup and you hold the licences, so nothing you paid for leaves with us.

Will changing my landing page affect my Google Ads Quality Score?

Landing page experience is one component Google uses, so better relevance, clarity and speed generally help. Message match stays a hard constraint. We will not promise a specific movement, and account structure is Google Ads management work rather than page work.

What happens if a test loses?

The variant is rolled back and the original stays live, so you are not left worse off. The loss is written up as a finding that narrows the next hypothesis, and losing tests appear in your report exactly like winners.
